Dentist Dr. David Benedict Fox was war hero

Thompson said. Returning to Memphis after the war, Mr. Fox earned a dental degree from the University of Tennessee Medical School, and began his long career as a dentist. He also married Sallie Sherman Moore Fox. The couple remained together for 54 years, until Mrs. Fox's death in 2001. Mr. Fox is survived by a daughter, Anne Ross of Nashville; two sons, David Fox Jr. and Howard Fox, both of Nashville; a sister, Jean Clippard of Nashville; his brother, Ted Fox of Hot Springs, and six grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by his second wife, Jean Campbell Fox, who died in 2006. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Park, with visitation at Memorial Park Funeral Home beginning at 10 a.m. Services in Nashville will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. David's Episcopal Church. The family requests that any memorials be sent to MIFA and the Center for Living and Learning on Old Hillsboro Road in Franklin, Tenn. (The Commercial Appeal)

Church in Rochester, baptized on May 12, 1959, and confirmed on May 18, 1969. Herschel enjoyed auto racing of all types, especially sprint cars and the Indy 500. He raced snowmobiles, was an avid fisherman and hunter. He had a green thumb, enjoyed working in his garden and grew many award-winning cacti and flowers. He and his wife Carol (Susie) loved animals and they gave good homes to many needy stray cats. He was a loving husband to his wife. He was great uncle, like a second father to his nieces and nephews.Herschel married Carol (Susie) Jeanne Hoxworth on Oct. 3 1959. Herschel is survived by his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Erma Hoxworth.Friends and family may visit from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, and one half hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.The funeral will be held Monday Feb. 20, at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in southeast Rochester, with the Rev. He was a devoted father of Sean and Reid and an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors include his parents, Gary and Janith Corkill of Austin; his sons, Sean and Reid Corkill of Westbrook; a sister, Susan Daniels of Rochester; a brother, Bradley (Pam) Corkill of Eau Claire, Wis.; five nieces and nephews, Amy, Nathan, Riley, Nicholas and Cassie; a great-niece, Elizabeth; two great-nephews, Ethan and Myles; and many aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends.
