Wilma A. Gibson

South West Indian School in Peoria, Ariz. Eventually they returned for a time to the Eugene area but felt their roots were in Albany and they purchased the duplex at the Mennonite Village where she died peacefully in her sleep. Wilma remained a member of the South Albany Community Church. She and Johnnie were married March 8, 1945, in Madison, Wis. He died in 1991. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Viola Anderson and Lorraine Matthews; brother Delmer Ransdell; and parents Elmer and Sylvia Ransdell. Survivors include her children, Mark Gibson and wife Susan of Monmouth, and Jerry Gibson and wife Nancy of Olympia, Wash.; grandchildren Marissa Martinis, Megan Lindgren, Amber Shoebridge and their spouses; great-grandson Augustus Martinis; and many beloved nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at South Albany Community Church. Fisher Funeral Home is handling arrangements. (Albany Democrat-Herald)

July 26, 1927 - Jan. 19, 2012 Barbara Headings, 84, of Albany passed away Thursday at the Mennonite Home with her family present. Barbara was born in Albany the third child of Harry and Viola (Neuschwander) Schlegel. She received Christ as her savior when she was a child, finished ninth grade and worked in a cleaners in Albany until she married Samuel G. Headings on July 26, 1946. University, Mankato, Minn., in 1954 and his master's degree in 1965 from Mankato State University. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corp from 1958 to 1959. He married Kathleen E. Dick at First Mennonite Church, Mountain Lake, in 1963. He taught various subjects in Gaylord, Minn., for three years and then taught social studies for 34 years in Winona School District at the junior high school, retiring in 1993. He also enjoyed teaching behind-the-wheel driver training for almost 40 years. He loved spending time with his family and getting together for birthday celebrations. Payrlee worked in an office and John worked in the shipyards during the war. At the end of the war they bought a farm and moved to Sweet Home where she lived until 2002. Payrlee then lived in the Mennonite Village in Albany, Wiley Creek Community in Sweet Home, and most recently Summit Springs Memory Care in Condon. She enjoyed reading, gardening, painting and flower arranging, and especially enjoyed quilting. Francis was active in the Salem Evangelical Church, and was one of the founding members of The Salem Singers. After his wife’s death in 2008, Francis became an active member of the Mennonite Village community in Albany. He is survived by his three children, Lucille Reeck of Dupont, Wash., Madell Klauke of Ontario, Canada, and Keith Wonderly of Philomath; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Salem Evangelical Church, 455 Locust St. N.E. in Salem. Harrisburg for 10 years, Lebanon for 15 years and settled on a farm near Albany for 70 years. On Sept. 7, 1941, he married Blanche Stutzman. She passed away in 1994. He was a member of Fairview Mennonite Church from his youth. Paul was a father, grandfather and great-grandfather who was a quiet, gentle and honest man, and was committed to the Lord and his family. He loved farming and continued to do so until age 88. After that he helped with harvest until age 93. He loved gardening and shared generously from it with family and neighbors. “We are all grateful for his love and godly example. We will miss him.”  Paul is survived by sons Oren and wife Mim, Larry and... Oct. 12, 1923 — Sept. 1, 2011 Freida Grace (Posey) Chandler, 87, died Thursday at the Mennonite Home of causes related to advanced dementia. She was born in Union the daughter of Fred Posey and Leona (McClelan) Posey. She grew up on the family farm with two brothers and four sisters. She graduated from Union High School. As a teenager, she had worked at Hot Lake Resort near LaGrande. She married Dwight Smith at LaGrande and they moved to Portland, where their son Stanford was born. (Albany Democrat-Herald)
