She was a science teacher at Junior High School 51 in Graniteville, now Markham Intermediate School, and was later a guidance counselor and assistant principal at Prall Intermediate School in West Brighton. Mrs. Trachman's 1972 book "Discipline and the Disruptive Child" (co-authored with Regina Berger) has been translated into several languages and remains in print today. Her columns in the Advance provided career guidance, personal reflections or accounts of her travels. She was bat mitz-vahed in her 70s and began studying the Torah and Kaballah in earnest. Mrs. Trachman was 86. Read her full obituary here. June 14: Philip McCuskerPhilip McCusker joined the Ancient Order of Hibernians in 1959 and became county president in 1962. He was a lifetime member of the St. Columcille Division No. 4 of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, which he helped organize and charter in 1970. He was one of the original organizers of the first Staten Island St. Patrick's Parade in 1962. In 1994, he earned the Commodore John Barry medal, presented to an individual who has shown dedication to his community, country and Irish heritage.
