Aug. 28, 1917 — Nov. 30, 2011 Adeline Helen Chesley, 94, of Albany passed away Wednesday. She was born in Pendleton, the daughter of Oscar and Gladys (Geyer) Waddell. She attended schools in Prospect, Shedd and Corvallis, and graduated from Corvallis High School in 1935. In 1941, she married Clarence Chesley in Corvallis. They later moved to Albany, where she was employed as a bookkeeper for many years. She retired in 1983 from the Albany Public School District. She had been a member of the Business W... Central High School in La Crosse, the class of 1944. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at age 17 on February 14, 1944. Ken was assigned to Easy Company, 28th Regiment, 5th Marine Division at Camp Pendleton. As a rifleman with the 3rd Platoon, he was wounded on the first day of battle on Iwo Jima by a mortar round. Ken recovered in time to join the 40-man patrol to the top of Mt. Suribachi. He guarded the group with his BAR and watched his platoon mates raise the first flag. Bay area, spending much of her young life with her grandparents Archie and Nell Philip. Jean graduated from Marshfield High School. She trained to be a registered nurse at St. Anthony's Hospital in Pendleton. She met her future husband, Jack, while he was in the U.S. Coast Guard and stationed at Coos Bay during World War II. They were married Christmas Eve 1945. After the war, they built a home on the family farm southwest of Corvallis, where Jean continued to live until April 2006.
