Lexington Company Comes To America Waving Its Stars And Stripes - Sacramento Bee

Mon, Jun 25, 2012
New England cottages.  Whitewashed cedar walls set the stage while gently weathered galley tables are curated with china and hostess gifts, vintage cupboards are artfully stocked with bathing suits and towels, and a captain's bed is transformed with signature sheets and blankets.   Prices range from $35 - $400 for bedding; $9 - $125 for home and tabletop; $89 - $395 for women's and men's clothing, and $39 - $275 for accessories.   To celebrate the debut, and just in time for Independence Day, Lexington Company launches the Stars and Stripes Collection.  Lindhe's re-imagination of the American flag emphasizes the brand's love of American heritage.  Standout items include mix and match stars and stripes bikinis, cotton gauze star scarves, oversized beach towels and plush picnic blankets. Lexington Company has grown from a small shop in Stockholm to an international lifestyle brand with twenty-six freestanding stores in five countries. It is sold at over 900 stores in more than twenty countries on four continents, including Harrods and Selfridges in London and Galeries Lafayette in Paris. Sun, Apr 1, 2012
She became a hat model in New York, an actress and later a disc jockey at a radio station in Somerset. “If I have my way, I’ll never see water again,” she told The Daily News in 1950, “except in a bathtub.” Not quite. In later life, she taught swimming at the Fall River Y.M.C.A. (New York Times)

Houston: 'Closure,' sadness and inevitability - Greenville News

Sun, Mar 25, 2012
Jackson, Whitney was a huge talent whose music will live on, though her legacy may be bruised.” Houston died Feb. 11 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, where she was discovered submerged in a bathtub. Harvey Levin, founder of the celebrity gossip site TMZ, suggested on Twitter that the coroner’s report was incomplete: “Where was the evidence of cocaine in (the) hotel room? We’re told she must have used shortly before death.” ...

Surviving the Apocalypse, the Best Unis in Hockey, and the Peyton Manning Drama - ESPN

Thu, Mar 22, 2012
I wasn't about to walk to the store. On the other hand: You know how they always tell you to fill up your bathtub in the event of an emergency so you have a supply of water to use? Well, my bathtub takes like three days to drain after a run-of-the-mill shower, so I've got that going for me, which is nice. Thoughts on who should win the Calder? Gotta be Gabriel Landeskog, right? Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has the flair and the goal scoring touch and Ad...

The boys basketball team from an Orthodox Jewish school fell just short in its state championship run after a semifinal game in Fort Worth, Texas, was rescheduled to not conflict with the Sabbath. Beren Academy lost 46-42 to Abilene Christian in the championship Saturday night. Beren's semifinal originally was set for Friday night. Beren students say their faith prohibits participation between sunset Friday and sunset Saturday. Tennis: Kevin Anderson took out Andy Roddick on Friday night, then bounced John Isner on Saturday from the Delray Beach (Fla.) International Tennis Championships. The 36th-ranked South African beat Isner 7-5, 7-6 (4) and will face qualifier Marinko Matosevic of Australia in today's final. The 173rd-ranked Matosevic reached his first career final with a 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (7) victory over Dudi Sela of Israel. -- Roger Federer edged Andy Murray 7-5, 6-4 to win his fifth Dubai Championships title in the United Arab Emirates. -- Taiwan's Hsieh Su-Wei reached the Malaysian Open final in Kuala Lampur by defeating Eleni Daniilidou of Greece 6-0, 4-6, 6-1. Lethal Combination of Drugs and Alchohol - Manila Bulletin

Wed, Feb 29, 2012
She was, according to all accounts, actually planning to attend a dinner party that night and when she didn’t show up, she was found unconscious in the bath tub of her hotel suite. Efforts to revive her failed. Prescription drugs were found in her hotel room, as well as an assortment of alcoholic beverages. It was another sad and unnecessary death. And a great loss to music lovers everywhere. I do think that doctors who attend celebrities as well as their personal agents and managers should watch their client closely for signs of addiction and be careful about what medications they are taking and whether they combine their prescribed drugs with alcohol.

Feb. 28 Open Line - Jacksonville Journal Courier

Wed, Feb 29, 2012
Midland Farm & Home, 1203 W. Morton Ave., Jacksonville. Score: 97. Violations: 3 points — Need to clean and sanitize both restrooms. Really? Farm and Home prepares food in the bathrooms? What next? Port-A-Pottie inspections? If you want to listen to the music in your vehicle, that’s fine. But when you are pumping gas do you really need to keep it going full blast? I was woken up this morning at 5:45 from the bass beat while the owner was pumping and then paying for gas. I’m not going to bother the cops for this, but it sure is annoying. Have some respect for those of us that don’t like rap music, please.Another “green energy” moment: A123, An electric car battery company, given $390 million in federal stimulus funds by Obama administration, lays off 125 workers, gives pay raise to executives.Karzai responds to Obama’s apology on Afghan TV: After speaking with “jihadi leaders,” we demand U.S. soldiers be “put on trial and punished.”Apparently PAWS is wanting to buy property in a premium residential area. $25,000 an acre for land for a dog shelter? You’ve got to be kidding. $200,000 to build a shelter? Is this going to have gold-plated elevators? Look around at some of the many old empty buildings in town. I’m sure you could find something to suit your needs for much cheaper than a quarter million dollars. It looks like Mr. Cantrell strikes again. He gives false impressions to committee members on their roles and level of involvement, provides misdirection to committee members, takes them on unauthorized field trips to other schools while claiming to be on official school business and creates an atmosphere of mistrust. When was the last time either Mr. Lakin or Mr. Selway met with the superintendent? Who are they taking their directions from? Why do the concerns of two committee members make a headline? Did anyone interview the other committee members? Do they have the same concerns as Mr. Lakin or Mr. Selway. Maybe the other committee members have heard the direction of the superintendent, listened to the vision, and allowed the school officials to do the right work instead of putting out the fires of Mr. Cantrell.“The people at PAWS do wonderful, selfless work. The Open Liner who was so inquisitive about the financial state of the group should perhaps stop by with a donation of food or medicine or maybe their own time; then they could ask in person.” Wow. So I have to stop by with a donation to inquire about where the money is going? Sorry, but I don’t think this is how a 501(c) not-for-profit is supposed to operate. How much money has been raised? It is really a simple question. As a Republican, I am astounded at the stupidity of our party. The rhetoric displayed against the other candidates, the actions of the Virginia and Alabama legislature against women; the arrogance of the Wisconsin and Arizona governors. We had the chance of a lifetime to take power back from the Democrats and we seem to be the gang that can’t even load the gun, let alone aim and shoot it. Unless of course you count shooting our own foot.It appears that Virginia Republicans are not the only Republicans who have passed legislation for the intrusive probe into a women’s uterus. The enlighted Republican legislature passed a bill identical to the one in Virginia. There is no way other than to d...

Clarksville reporter begins journey through her genealogy - Clarksville Leaf Chronicle

Wed, Feb 29, 2012
I remember as a child sitting in porcelain bathtub with pillows and books surrounding me at the Christian County Public Library in Hopkinsville, Ky., many Saturdays. This tub was my babysitter and the books and my little sister Tosha, my friends for the many hours, my father, Tedrick, lost himself in the genealogy room several yards away. He always emerged hours later, with a notebook, file folders and papers in hand. He always had a smile...

February 12, 2012. Urban hikes offer outdoors options during cold months - Greenville News

Sun, Feb 19, 2012
Cleveland Park is central for urban hiking. With plenty of parking and bathrooms, it offers four natural surface trails as well as a loop system of paved trails. The Swamp Rabbit Trail also bisects the trail, offering lengthy options south and north. A total of four natural surface trails, two of them developed as Eagle Scout projects, dot the park’s 122 acres. While the 2.75 miles of trails do not connect, a hiker can easily access them all via paved trails and put together a hike of more than 4 miles. Cleveland Park is also easily connected to Reedy Falls Park by the Swamp Rabbit Trail. Using the Swamp Rabbit, hikers can easily link together lengthy sojourns between the parks and into downtown for food or fluid and then return to their start...
