Former Liverpool FC star Ray Houghton says there is no crisis at Anfield as ... - ChesterChronicle.co.uk

Sun, Apr 22, 2012
Premier League. First it was Arsenal, for whom obituaries were written in the wake of a sluggish start to the campaign. Arsene Wenger’s past glories were never likely to calm the vultures while Manchester United were busy smashing eight goals past his side. Then there was Blackburn, where supporter dissent towards manager Steve Kean reached new levels of vitriol throughout a surreal autumn, and Sunderland, whose poor form saw Steve Bruce sacked as manager before he could unwrap his Christmas presents. Chelsea had a go, too. Andre Villas-Boas had been built up so high, it was inevitable he would come crashing down once r...

Monkees singer Davy Jones dead at 66

Wed, Feb 29, 2012
Rhonda Irons of the Martin County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff's spokeswoman said there were no suspicious circumstances. Born in Manchester, England, Jones had stylishly long hair, boyish good looks and a British accent that endeared him to legions of screaming young fans after “The Monkees” premiered on CBS in 1966. Aspirations of Beatles-like fame were never fully achieved, however, as the TV show lasted just two years. But The Monkees made rock ‘n roll history as the band galvanized a wide American following with love-struck hits such as “Daydream Believer” and “I'm a Believer” that endure even today. Jones was born on Dec. 30, 1945, and became a child star in his native England who appeared on television and stage, including a heralded role as “The Artful Dodger” in the play “Oliver.” He earned a Tony nomination at 16 when he reprised that role in the... Dead & buried Arsenal come back to life to trounce Tottenham & halt their own ... - Goal.com

Wed, Feb 29, 2012
Wenger’s 15-year-reign at Arsenal. Following titles, cups and the unforgettable 'Invincibles' season, it looked like his number could be up with a string of defeats against AC Milan, Sunderland, Manchester United, Swansea and Fulham since the turn of the year.  Certainly, the manager’s approach to the club has been questioned. Do Arsenal have a ‘Plan B’ when on the back foot? Why doesn’t Wenger spend more money? These questions are understandable, and in fact still remain as they look to rescue their season and press on next year. He has even faced questioning within his own team, as captain Robin van Persie demanded answers on the pitch when Andrey Arshavin replaced Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in their eventual defeat to Manchester United.  They will probably still finish below Tottenham this season, with the gap currently standing at seven point...

Bonnaroo will be held June 7-10. The lineup has something of a ripped-from-the-headlines feel. Several acts had notable nights at the Grammy Awards. The reunited Beach Boys lineup of Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks made their live debut at the awards, joined on stage by Foster the People. Bon Iv...

Morning Report: Duke Goes for Newt - Voice of San Diego

Sun, Jan 29, 2012
Not bad, considering redevelopment lasted 66 years. • Rob Davis' recent profile of Doug Manchester, the famous hotelier and now owner of U-T San Diego, drew back the curtain and showed San Diegans a touching and quixotic side of Manchester. Davis now returns to the lore of Manchester with a round-up of other profiles that have been written over the years, some recent and some not. Read on for telling thoughts on Manchester, such as this one from 1984: "When Manchester signs a contract, he thinks that's just the start of negotiations." • Our next "Meeting of the Minds" art event is rapidly approaching! Make sure you get all the details and check out the speakers in Kelly Bennett's latest post (with video). • Finally, in August Keegan Kyle fact-checked a claim that by signing petitions, often pushed by signature gatherers outside local businesses, you risk having your identity stolen. He determined some claims were true,...
