Miguel Terekhov, Dancer With Ballets Russes, Dies at 83

At his retirement in 1991, the School of Dance offered a wide range of courses in ballet, modern and other dance forms. Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, on Aug. 22, 1928, to Mikhail Terekhov, an immigrant from Ukraine, and Antonia Rodriguez, a Charraúa Indian, Mr. Terekhov became enamored of ballet at 7 when an aunt took him to a performance. He soon entered ballet school. But when he told his parents that he wished to become a professional dancer, his father objected, arguing that a dancer’s life was one of constant hardship. He grew so vehement that Mikhail asked how he could possibly know anything about a dancer’s life. His father then pulled out old scrapbooks and, for the first time, Mr. Terekhov learned that his father had been a dancer in Ukraine. Mr. Terekhov danced with Col. W. de Basil’s Ballets Russes from 1942 to 1947, and with the rival Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo from 1954 to 1958. He was raised in Chippewa and Swift counties in Minnesota where he attended one-room rural schools. When the farm work was done, DeLos worked as a carpenter for E.S. Hildahl in Montevideo for five years.DeLos moved to Rochester in 1956, where he worked as a carpenter. He graduated from Rochester Junior College in 1963. He began work for the city of Rochester in 1966. He was the collection system supervisor at the time of his retirement in 1996, from the Public Works Department. John enjoyed fishing, traveling, and spectator sports.Survivors include his wife Sandra; children, Edward (Brandy) Christenson of Minot, N.D., Martin (Carrie) Christenson of Montevideo, William (Alicia) Christenson of Maple Lake and Thomas (Jenny) Christenson of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren, Tatum, Brayden, Tosten, Gabriel and Akeley; three brothers, Fred Escherich of Burlington, N.C., Richard (Janice) Christenson and Kenneth (Sharon) Christenson, both of Austin; and father-in-law, Edward Hebel of Kilkenny. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Vivian, sister-in-law, Joan Escherich, one niece and mother-in-law, Alice Hebel.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at St. Columbanus Catholic Church in Blooming Prairie, with Father William Kulas officiating.Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, and one hour prior to the service, both at the church. There will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary service held at 5 p.m. Thursday at St. Columbanus. Interment will be at the Geneva Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 52 and V.F.W. Curtis L. Anderson, 86, of Coleraine, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, in the Grand Itasca Hospital, Grand Rapids. Born Oct. 3, 1924, in Montevideo, Minn., he was the son of Nels and Clara Anderson. Curtis lived in Foley, Minn., prior to moving to Bovey in 1950 and had been a Coleraine resident since 1965. Curtis and Delores Wohlsdorf were married April 18, 1959, in Frazee, Minn.
