Cleveland Indians - TeamReport - Chicago Tribune

Mon, Jun 25, 2012
RHP Chris Perez extended his streak of consecutive saves to 23 by striking out all three batters he faced in the ninth inning of the Indians' 2-0 win over Houston on Friday. "He pitched very aggressively and was lights out," manager Manny Acta said. Perez blew a save on opening day but is 23-for-23 in save situations since then. The 23 saves lead the major leagues. --RHP Ubaldo Jimenez pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings to get the win in the Indians' 2-0 win over Houston on Friday. "Early in the year when his command wasn't there, as soon as guys got on base he unraveled," Acta said. "Now, he doesn't panic. When somebody gets on base, he makes pitches." Jimenez, who had a 6.75 ERA in six starts in May, is 2-1 with a 2.05 ERA in four starts in June. --2B Jason Kipnis, who leads the Indians in several offensive categories, hasn't been in many slumps this season, but he's in a mini-slump now. Kipnis was 0-for-3 Friday and is hitless in his last 12 at-bats. --RHP Vinnie Pestano pitched out of a two-on, two-out jam when relieving RHP Ubaldo Jimenez in the seventh inning Friday. Pestano has stranded all 13 base runners he has inherited this season. That's the most inherited runners stranded by any AL reliever. --RHP Justin Masterson's three-hit 8-1 win over the Reds on Thursday was the first complete game by an Indians pitcher at Progressive Field in almost two years. Prior to Masterson's, the last complete game at home by an Indians pitcher was by Josh Tomlin, on Sept. 24, 2010, vs. Kansas City. BY THE NUMBERS: 0-10 -- The Indians' record, prior to Friday night, in games in which they had five or fewer hits. Friday they had four hits but beat Houston 2-0. QUOTE TO NOTE: "He's a guy we can trust, because he's done it in the past." -- Manager Manny Acta on RHP Ubaldo Jimenez, who after a slow start is now 7-5 and has a 2.05 ERA in four starts in June. ----------------------------------------------- MLB Team Report - Cleveland Indians - ROSTER REPORT MEDICAL WATCH: --DH Travis Hafner (sore right knee) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 24. CF Drew Stubbs went 0-for-2 Friday in the first game of a scheduled three-day rehab assignment with low Class A Dayton. Stubbs, out since June 6 with a strained oblique, likely will be activated Monday. "A lot of it depends on how he feels, if there are no setbacks at all," manager Dusty Baker said. "Hopefully, he stays healthy the rest of the year. The guy's been healthy. I think it's the first time he's every really been hurt. Even when he's dinged up, he doesn't say much."--RHP Mike Leake will start Sunday's game, and RHP Mat Latos will start Monday's. The Reds want to separate Leake and RHP Bronson Arroyo again. Leake and Latos switched days when Leake was dealing with the flu-like illness. "Leake and Arroyo are so very similar," manager Dusty Baker said. Charlotte Bobcats hire Mike Dunlap as coach - Chicago Sun-Times

Mon, Jun 25, 2012
Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Quin Snyder last week. At some point Dunlap re-entered the picture and was offered and accepted the job Monday night. A text message sent to Dunlap was not immediately returned. Dunlap, 54, will replace Paul Silas, whose contract was not renewed after Charlotte finished with the worst winning percentage in NBA history this past season. The Bobcats were 7-59. A former assistant coach with the Denver Nuggets, Dunlap assumed all duties with the St. John’s program after head coach Steve Lavin took a leave of absence to deal with prostate cancer. Dunlap has spent most of his career at the college level and has worked under Lute Olson in Arizona. He joined St. John’s after serving as the associate head coach on Pac-10 staffs at Arizona and Oregon. Arizona went 21-14 in 2008-09, advancing to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 before ending the season with a loss to top-seeded Louisville in the NCAA Midwest Regional Semifinal game. Dunlap joined Oregon’s staff in 2009-10 and the Ducks posted a 16-16 record. Prior to working at Arizona and Oregon, Dunlap spent two seasons in the NBA with the Nuggets working under head coach George Karl. The Nuggets compiled a 95-69 (.579) record during his tenure and made two playoff appearances, including a 50-win season for the 2007-08 Denver squad, a first for the organization in 23 seasons. Early in his career, Dunlap also served as an assistant coach at Southern California under George Raveling, and as an assistant coach at Iowa. He also spent five years as an assistant at his alma mater, Loyola Marymount University. In betwe...
