In This Case, It's Fun To Hit 30 - Hartford Courant

Sun, Apr 1, 2012
She has just five field goals since playing 35 minutes at Louisville on Feb. 7 and is shooting just 4 of 22 from three-point range. … There was a report last week in a Massachusetts newspaper that both UConn associate head coach Chris Dailey and Hartford coach Jen Rizzotti would be on Providence's list to replace Phil Seymore. Dailey said Sunday she is not interested in the job. Home Away From Home Kansas State women's basketball coach Deb Patterson seems resigned to the fact that the Wildcats are perennial 8-9 seeds and have been sent to Connecticut three times in the past four tournaments. "The facts are, we are always in UConn's bracket," she said. "What's exciting to me is we finally put ourselves in position to have the opportunity to advance. We are in Connecticut and playing Connecticut." ...

Motorcycles, scrambled eggs, and the ways we live forever - Minnesota Public Radio

Sun, Mar 25, 2012
Google. The Internet and its search engines make it hard for people to be forgotten. Today I was reminded again of the "connections" the Internet can give us. My brother, Mike, died last week in Massachusetts and I was asked to say a few words at his graveside service. So I told the story of Everett Ek of Rochester (left), whose obituary appeared in the Star Tribune last week (you can also find it in the Rochester Post Bulletin). I'm a big reader of obituaries, especially the ones that capture the personality of the individual, rather than follow the boilerplate copy that renders most obits sounding like the one before. Everett Ek's wasn't like that: Everett enjoyed his final days. He shared a visit with Kellen, his great-grandson, on Saturday. "Papa" made scrambled eggs for his granddaughters, Alahn and Korah, Sunday morning after their stay over. Monday, he went cruising on his Harley and cleaned out his man cave, aka the garage. Tuesday morning found him savoring a Grain Belt in his man cave with Bob, a morning coffee klutch buddy. Later, when he went out to work in the yard on that beautiful day, he fell to the ground and was gon...

Joyce was a caring, spiritual woman whose family and friends were the center of her life. She was well known for her generosity and loving heart and always put others needs before her own. The large network of close friends who truly cherished her friendship is a testa...

Bill McEwen: Beneath obits lie tales of positive effects on Valley life - Fresno Bee

Thu, Mar 22, 2012
He got hired by a house-moving company and ended up owning it. As the company grew over 40 years, so did the size and importance of the buildings moved. Alma Margosian's family left Massachusetts during the Great Depression. Mrs. Margosian, 85, worked at Hammer Field during World War II, for the federal probation office and as a medical transcriptionist in Saudi Arabia. When her husband died of leukemia, she donated a year's salary to the Linus Pauling Institute for cancer research. Bob Robinson, 85, was a real cowboy born in Academy and raised in Shaver Lake. World War II took him to the Pacific and duty as a Navy gunner. He put on rodeos in Hawaii, moved to San Diego and then returned home to be the cow boss of Giffen Ranch and participate in cutting horse shows. Dr. Brenton Smith, born in Tonasket, Wash., was 39 years old when he moved to Riverdale after early interests in electrical and nuclear engineering had given way to medicine. Dr. Smith, 67, had a passion for serving patients in the Valley's rural areas and for teaching future family practitioners. And there is Pete P...

Santorum, Romney in tight duel for Ohio - Greenville News

Tue, Mar 6, 2012
Republican presidential race in a generation. Santorum’s broke through in primaries in Oklahoma and Tennessee and in the North Dakota caucuses. Romney had a home-state win in Massachusetts to go with victories in Vermont and Virginia. Ohio was the marquee matchup of the night, a second industrial state showdown in as many weeks for the two rivals. Of all the Super Tuesday states, it drew the most campaigning and television advertisements, and for good reason— no Republican has ever won the White House without carrying the state in the fal...
