Indianapolis fans get 1st glimpse of Andrew Luck during workout at ... - Greenfield Daily Reporter

Mon, Jun 25, 2012
Lineback wore a No. 18 jersey, like a smattering of fans. Some were wearing the Colts traditional colors while a few donned Manning's new jersey, from the Denver Broncos. There were plenty of Luck shirts in the crowd, too. "I understand why they did it, it's a business decision," said 37-year-old Ernie Jenks of nearby Mooresville, who wore a T-shirt that read "Luck Knows" and brought his 4-year-old son decked out in a brand new No. 12 jersey. "I think some of the fans really wanted Luck and wanted to push Peyton out so quickly after the injury they may end up regretting it if Peyton continues to win 10 or 12 games a year and gets to a Super Bowl," Jenks added. "I hope the best for him." Fans weren't the only ones who were impressed with Luck's performance. Wayne, the perennial Pro Bowler who said last week that he wanted to see if Luck could throw an NFL ball, liked what he saw, too. "We've still got work to do, but I like him," Wayne said. "He's got a great ball, nice spin on it and whenever your quarterback is having fun, you've got to have fun, too." It marked the eighth time Luck has worked out with the Colts since being drafted in late April. He practiced five times during a three-day rookie mini-camp in May and returned Tuesday for two more practices afte...

Charlotte Bobcats hire Mike Dunlap as coach - Chicago Sun-Times

Mon, Jun 25, 2012
Paul Silas, whose contract was not renewed after Charlotte finished with the worst winning percentage in NBA history this past season. The Bobcats were 7-59. A former assistant coach with the Denver Nuggets, Dunlap assumed all duties with the St. John’s program after head coach Steve Lavin took a leave of absence to deal with prostate cancer. Dunlap has spent most of his career at the college level and has worked under Lute Olson in Arizona. He joined St. John’s after serving as the associate head coach on Pac-10 staffs at Arizona and Oregon. Arizona went 21-14 in 2008-09, advancing to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 before ending the season with a loss to top-seeded Louisville in the NCAA Midwest Regional Semifinal game. Dunlap joined Oregon’s staff in 2009-10 and the Ducks posted a 16-16 record. Prior to working at Arizona and Oregon, Dunlap spent two seasons in the NBA with the Nuggets working under head coach George Karl. The Nuggets compiled a 95-69 (.579) record during his tenure and made two playoff appearances, including a 50-win season for the 2007-08 Denver squad, a first for the organization in 23 seasons. Early in his career, Dunlap also served as an assistant coach at Southern California under George Raveling, and as an assistant coach at Iowa. He also spent five years as an assistant at his alma mater, Loyola Marymount University. In between he spent 10 years at Metropolitan State College of Denver.

'Frog juice' drug found in horses - El Paso Inc.

Mon, Jun 25, 2012
South American frog. But for months postrace testing could not find the substance, a painkiller far more powerful than morphine. Clark Aided Blacks on 'Bandstand'? Not Always - The Root

Sun, Apr 22, 2012
City councils from Jersey City to Santa Cruz to San Antonio had banned rock performances, and radio stations in Pittsburgh, Chicago, Denver, Lubbock and Cincinnati refused to play rock and roll. The fear was in large part fueled by concerns about racial mixing, and on that front, Bandstand was indeed groundbreaking. Clark's show put African-American music and performers on television every day. While it featured a sanitized version of rock and roll, with white teen idols such as Bobby Rydell and Frankie Avalon, American Bandstand also hosted black vocal groups such as the Coasters and the Impressions; early girl groups such as the Shirelles; Motown artists such as Mary Wells and Smokey Robinson and the Miracles; and R&B and soul pioneers such as James Brown and the Famous Flames, Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin. Clark brought African-American performers to national television in an era when such performances were rare. American Bandstand also helped invent the demographic that still dominates popular culture: teenagers. It was the first national television program aimed squarely at teens, and it laid the groundwork for the baby boom generation, defining what teens listened to, how they danced and what they wore, ate and drank. Clark was well aware that advertisers were eager to reach teenagers, and his show offered daily access to young consumers. "It's been a long, long time since a major network has aimed at the most entertainment-starved group in the...
