Eugene Konczakowski, 91, lawyer, owned theaters

He also was the owner and operator of a handful of neighborhood theaters begun by his father, Matthew M. Konczakowski. They were the Central Park, Main Street and Fillmore Avenue, which closed in 1958; the long-closed Marlowe, at 257 Virginia St.; the Regent, 1365 Main St., now the Bethesda World Harvest International Church; the long-closed Senate, 188 Rhode Island St.; and the Circle, 44 Connecticut St., now Masjid Al-Eiman mosque, and the last theater to close, in 1963. Mr. Konczakowski was a former member of the Variety Club, a lifetime member of both the Professional Businessmen’s Association and the Disabled American Veterans, and a lifetime honorary member of the University of Buffalo Alumni Association. He was presented with a certificate of appreciation by the UB Law School and the Law Alumni Association for 50 years of service to the law profession. Mr. Baker was born in Buffalo and lived most of his life in Kenmore, where he was a 1959 graduate of Kenmore West High School. He also served as co-chairman of the Amherst Industrial Development Agency, director of the Erie County Chapter of the New York State Association for Retarded Children, chairman of the Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital Board, director of the Automobile Club of Western New York, and director of the Volunteer Association of Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Mr. DeLuca was a 2005 inductee in the Metropolitan Erie Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. He enjoyed basketball, baseball and bowling, and was a longtime member of Brookfield Country Club. He also traveled extensively around the world, and recorded more than 50 years of annual family vacations to St. Petersburg, Fla.
