Mon, Jun 25, 2012
Franchitti's car to spin and tap the wall, crumpling his car's nose. After repairs, Franchitti came out 29th and then began his climb back to the front. A major crash occurred on Lap 79 when Mike Conway spun, got slightly airborne and Will Power slammed into him, with Power's car actually sliding underneath Conway's. Neither driver was injured. One of the drivers' tires also flew off and nearly struck three-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves as he came up to the crash. Dick Clark Could Rock, but He Started Out Country - Billboard

Sun, Apr 22, 2012
DJ. He was a dear friend to The Oak Ridge Boys and we remember his family today in our prayers." Over the years, Clark appeared on many country related specials featuring such legends as Conway Twitty and Merle Haggard and in the mid 1990s, he collaborated on a well-received special on The Nashville Network where he and Ralph Emery - Clark's country music counterpart interviewed each other. He admitted to Emery that he had been a workaholic - particularly in the early part of his career. "I will truly miss Dick Clark. My thoughts and prayers go out to Rac, Kari and the whole Clark family. Rest in peace, Dick. You deserve it. Clark's production company also was responsible for TNN's 1990s talk show "Prime Time Country," and also has produced the American Music Awards as well as the Academy of Country Music Awards for many years. This year's ACMs host Reba McEntire sent her regard on Twitter, saying, "I will truly miss Dick Clark. My thoughts and prayers go out to Rac, Kari and the whole Clark family. Rest in peace, Dick. You deserve it." One of the most awarded performers on the Clark-produced programs, Kenny Rogers, also issued this statement yesterday. "I'm one of the lucky people who can say that I knew Dick Clark personally. Dick produced almost every awards show I was on during the 80's, and he constantly encouraged me toward success. He will be missed by everyone-especially by those who knew him well." ...

Zina Bethune, Actress and Dancer, Dies at 67

Fri, Feb 17, 2012
While arduously working toward becoming a registered nurse, Ms. Bethune’s character absorbs all she can from, and sometimes struggles with, her mentor, Liz Thorpe (Shirl Conway). The program received several Emmy nominations. Ms. Bethune bounced between acting and dance well into her 20s. “She calls it a ‘schizo career,’ ” The New York Post wrote in 1964, adding that she insisted, “I have to do both.” By the mid-1970s, however, dancing had taken its physical toll, and by 1980 she had moved to Los Angeles. There she merged her dual interests by founding Bethune Theaterdanse (now Theater Bethune), a nonprofit dance and drama company that has toured internationally and performed at the White House. Zina Bianca Bethune was born in Manhattan on Feb. 17, 1945, to Ivy and William Bethune. Her mother was an actress (Abigail on the soap opera “General Hospital”), her father an interior designer. Besides her mother, she is survived by her husband, Sean Freeley, a dancer, whom she married in 1970. Ms. Bethune’s dance career was all the more remarkable in that it was accomplished despite a childhood diagnosis of scoliosis, an abnormal curvature of the spine. In 1980 she created Infinite Dreams, a dance and performance program that has since tutored more than 8,000 children with disabilities throughout Southern California. “The challenge,” she told The Los Angeles Times in 1999, “is to let the children’s creativity and musicality take them beyond where they’ve ever been, to let it move them in whatever ways they can move — and that’s when they soar.” ... Some voters will cast ballots in new locations - Greenville News

Thu, Jan 19, 2012
Pelham Falls Clubhouse. Overall, the locations of at least nine precincts in Greenville County and 10 in Pickens County have been changed since 2010. Conway Belangia, director of Greenville County Voter Registration and Elections, said the reasons for the changes vary. The Greenville 06 precinct’s temporary move to the West Greenville Recreation center is due to two weddings being held at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, their regular voting place, Belangia said. The Greenville 14 precinct has been moved from the Phillis Wheatley Center to Sterling School because “they (the center) were not allowed to take us in on the last election because of insurance situations,” Belangia said. Thieves broke into the old East Gantt Elementary School and stole piping, so the Belm...
